What is a purchase order?

What is the difference between a PO and an invoice?
The buyer issues the PO before delivery. The supplier issues the invoice after delivery to request payment. Matching the PO, the goods receipt and the invoice is called a three-way match.
Should a PO show VAT?
Showing VAT on the PO helps both sides agree the total payable up front. The VAT is charged on the supplier’s tax invoice.
